Football in Canada is very popular, and people enjoy the game as often as they can. It is offered on an amateur level as well as professionally. There are some significant differences though from Canadian football with American football. The one that many people are surprised with is that they have 12 men on the field. In American football, there are 12 men on the field.

Football in CanadaOf course, with that additional person on the field, it also means that there is a difference in their formation out there on the field. The other main difference is that Canadian football only has 3 downs instead of 4 in order to get the football moved at least 10 yards down the field.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) is the most popular entity when it comes to football in Canada. There is a great deal of support for the teams and rivalries among them. The Grey Cup is the competition for the ultimate winner each season. This is considered to be the largest annual sporting event that occurs each year in Canada. It is estimated that at least 40% of the population around Canada watch the event on TV.

The amateur football in Canada is the Football Canada. There are 27 teams found in the 4 conferences. There are also semi professional teams in Canada that are designed for those that complete amateur play but they don’t get drafted into the professional league. It gives them the ability to continue playing a sport that they truly love.

In all categories, there are 4 quarters of play, each lasting 15 minutes. Should there be a tie at the end of the game; each team will be given the same number of chances to break that tie. If one team scores, the other team gets the ball and they have a chance to score. If they do as well, the process continues.

However, if only one team scores during that tie breaking session, then they will be the winner of the game. There are many penalties that can occur during any game. It is very exciting to see the passing, the running game, and to cheer on any team involved with football in Canada.
